Founded in 1988, Colorado "I Have A Dream" Foundation (CIHAD), educates and empowers youth to achieve their greatest dreams by leveling the playing field to opportunities. CIHAD helps close the educational gap by providing individualized social, emotional, and academic support to youth in under-resourced communities. The Student & Family Support Specialist is a key member of the CIHAD team, leading extended learning opportunities for our students in grades K-7 through after-school clubs and summer camp sessions, supporting the academic growth of students through tutoring and intervention opportunities, supporting families through one-on-one touchpoints with students and families, and assisting with family engagement events and CIHAD Family Academy offerings. The Student & Family Support Specialist reports to the Senior Director of Partnerships & Programs.


The Student & Family Support Specialist is responsible for the following key duties:


Student Academic Support and Extended Learning Program

  • Leading in-person learning sessions while students are working remotely during the academic day (Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM)
    • Supporting completion of classroom assignments
    • Providing academic intervention and enrichment support as needed for individual students
    • Conducting social-emotional and physical activities for students
  • Participating in coaching and feedback sessions with the Senior Director of Partnerships & Programs to ensure the successful execution of the intervention, tutoring, and enrichment programs and the implementation of culturally responsive and trauma-informed teaching strategies
  • Following the CIHAD Extended Learning Program course curriculum to lead activities and lessons for students in assigned extended learning courses when schools return fully in-person
  • Gathering and inputting data related to student academic progress, assigned extended learning courses, and prepared relevant data reports as required


Family Support and Engagement

  • Developing personal relationships with a cohort of 30 to 40 students and families as assigned by the Senior Director of Partnerships & Programs and working collaboratively with Team Care, CIHAD’s mental health and social-emotional team, to provide individual academic and social-emotional supports to each student and their family
  • Supporting strong family involvement in student development through at least bi-weekly check-in meetings, engagement activities, and home visits and building strong relationships and lines of communication between CIHAD, the school, and home
  • Working with community partners to fulfill individual need requests for students and families (i.e., food, rent assistance, employment opportunities, medical support)
  • Supporting the execution of one-time workshops and ongoing parent/guardian learning and development courses through the CIHAD Family Academy


Other Duties

  • Assisting with the student and family recruitment and enrollment process and supporting student and family retention in programs
  • Connecting at least monthly with classroom teacher of assigned students to check-in on academic, social-emotional, and physical well-being and identify any areas of need or support
  • Building strong relationships with and among students
  • Participating in CIHAD all-staff training, meetings, and events



  • An unwavering belief all students can be successful
  • Record of accomplishment contributing to an organizational culture that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • At least two years of experience working with elementary or middle school-aged children
  • Experience with lesson planning and lesson execution
  • Experience working with community partners in the Denver Metro area
  • Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal, non-verbal)
  • Associates or Bachelors degree with a focus on early childhood education or elementary/middle school education highly preferred
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish highly preferred



  • High school diploma
  • Must pass a criminal background check



This is a temporary, full-time (between 30 and 35 hours per week), non-exempt position with the possibility to become permanent. The salary is between $15 and $20 per hour based on experience.
