Colorado "I Have A Dream" Foundation removes barriers to academic success from elementary school to career through a comprehensive support model focused on four key components:

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Director of College & Career Development is a key member of the Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation senior leadership team, serving as the liaison between the organization, high school and college-aged youth, their families, and our college and career partners. The Director of College & Career Development is responsible for implementing and monitoring the Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation college and career development program to ensure youth have the support and resources necessary for high school graduation and their chosen post-secondary path. The Director of College & Career Development reports to the President & CEO and will supervise the High School Program Manager and Engagement Specialist.

 

The Director of College & Career Development is responsible for the following key duties:

 

College & Career Development Programs

  • Recruiting for and enrolling youth in college and career development seminars and internship programming
  • Implementing and monitoring college and career development seminars and internship programming, including, but not limited to:
    • College application and financial aid process
    • College scholarship service profile
    • Competitive scholarship applications and interviews
    • Family education programs and services
    • College visits
    • Career aptitude testing
    • Career development courses
    • Career coaching and mentoring
  • Developing personal relationships with youth and families within an assigned caseload and working collaboratively with other team members, in order to provide necessary academic and behavioral health development supports to high school and college-aged youth
  • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with post-secondary staff, including admissions representatives, pre-collegiate partners, and other related outreach partners
  • Participating in various community events including college fairs, college access program events, Denver Public Schools events, or other career and college development events
  • Remaining aware of issues and trends in college admission, higher education and testing, and workforce development training, especially that apply to first-generation college youth, youth from low-income communities, youth of color, and undocumented youth

 

Systems Advocacy

  • Developing and executing one-time workshops and ongoing parent/guardian learning and development courses through a collaborative planning process with families
  • Promoting family involvement in youth development through regular check-in meetings, engagement activities, and home visits and building strong relationships and lines of communication between Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation, the school, and home
  • Researching and assisting youth with placement in internships, summer opportunities, and employment
  • Proactively engaging key stakeholders – youth, parents, staff, community, and Board – in working towards the Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation mission and vision
  • Managing Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation communication, events, and services focused on career and college development
  • Creating and maintaining relationships with key college access and college success organizations
  • Developing and cultivating partnerships with area colleges to improve the graduation and college completion rates for youth and to increase college access, financial aid, and support systems
  • Developing and cultivating partnerships with area businesses, non-profits, and other employers to identify job shadowing and internship opportunities

 

Team Management and Support

  • Directly managing High School Program Manager and Engagement Specialists
  • Supporting team members to make sure processes and goals are in place and procedures are followed to ensure all Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation youth are moving towards graduation from high school and completion of post-secondary goals
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date data for all Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation high school youth, college-aged youth, and alumni in the organizational database
  • Analyzing Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation college and career development data, quantifying current outcomes and future demands, mapping current dosage and duration of services, and developing a clear vision of how Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation is supporting high school and post-secondary youth
  • Leading the planning for and facilitation of College & Career Development Team meetings

 

Operations and Finance

  • Managing the College & Career Development Team budget in collaboration with the Vice President of Finance & Operations
  • Working collaboratively with the Vice President of Finance & Operations to execute all necessary operational aspects of the college and career development program, including, but not limited to, securing transportation, booking facilities, risk management, and compliance
  • Analyzing college and career development program outcome data to inform annual planning and budget creation
  • Collaborating with the President & CEO to identify and secure funding opportunities that support career and college development
  • Contributing to grant applications and grant reports

 

Other Duties

  • Tracking and managing data for college and career development programs and post-secondary matriculation, persistence, and graduation as well as academic, attendance, and disciplinary data for youth on assigned caseload
  • Collaborating with volunteers who support career and college development programs
  • Establishing relationships and working cooperatively as a team member with high school and post-secondary staff and Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation colleagues
  • Participating in Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation all-staff training, meetings, and events

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of five years of professional work experience, including two years in a leadership role in a school, non-profit, or mission-driven setting
  • Unwavering belief all youth can be successful
  • Record of accomplishment creating and sustaining an organizational culture that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Knowledgeable about education systems and issues
  • Experience helping youth and their families navigate college admission, financial aid, and scholarship application procedures
  • Experience helping youth navigate career development, including apprenticeship and internship application and placement, enrollment and completion of applicable training courses, and development of soft and hard skills needed in the workplace
  • Knowledge of higher education financing, student financial aid, and postsecondary education entrance processes
  • Understanding of the college and financial aid processes for DACA and undocumented youth
  • Strong team player
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop strong relationships across a diverse spectrum of stakeholders
  • Great communication skills (written, verbal, non-verbal)
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Spanish bilingual (oral and written) highly preferred
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and ability to ability to be insured under the company's insurance policy

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000 depending on experience.
